Ancient Voices EN – ANCIENT VOICES

Ancient Voices brings together sound art, performance, and artistic research across diverse cultural and environmental contexts.

Through viola, voice, drum, field recordings, and live electronics, immersive sonic spaces emerge between concert, sound installation, and performance. The works evolve through encounters with landscapes, local sound cultures, and collaborative processes with musicians and artists in the places where they are created.

At its core are listening, resonance, and the relationship between sound, memory, and place.

Ancient Voices of the Karoo

Ancient Voices of the Karoo is an interdisciplinary sound and performance project between South Africa and Switzerland.

Rooted in the landscapes and cultural resonances of the Karoo, the project brings together viola, voice, drum, field recordings, and live electronics to create immersive sonic environments that move between concert, sound installation, and performance.

At its core are intercultural exchange, artistic collaboration, and the relationship between sound, memory, landscape, and listening. Together with local musicians and cultural practitioners, collaborative processes emerge that intertwine contemporary sound art with personal encounters and site-specific experiences.

Waldon Paul Ewerts works across soul, blues, African rap, and experimental music. Raised in the Karoo and rooted in KhoiKhoi heritage, he brings a deeply personal and authentic perspective to the project.
